Immanuel Journaling- from the book, “The Joyful Journey”
1. Dear God, I’m thankful for:
2. My dear child: Write what it would be like God to say in response to your gratitude. i.e. Thank you for sharing your heart with me...thank you for noticing me in your life.
Now write down what it would be like God to say with these prompts.
3. I can see you: (Include physical sensations.) i.e. crying, pasting on a fake smile, clenching your hands, working long hours…etc.
4. I can hear you: saying to yourself i.e. “I’m a failure,” or, “How will I ever get everything done?”
5. I understand how big this is for you. Imagine God seeing how hard this is for you. He understands how you feel. Write what you sense He would say.
6. I’m glad to be with you and I see your weaknesses tenderly.
i.e. I will never condemn you. I’m always glad to interact even if you’re upset.
7. I can do something about it. Write what God might say about how he’ll be a help to you. i.e. “I will strengthen you and help you.”
8. Read aloud. Does this reflect the voice and character of Jesus? Is it consistent with Scripture? Does it bring you peace?
